Hello! I am Marisa Blake Szubryt, a PhD Candidate at the School of Biological Sciences, Oklahoma Biological Survey, and Robert Bebb Herbarium at the University of Oklahoma. I am a botanist and systematist who has worked primarily on composites (Asteraceae/Compositae) in the aster tribe (Ericameria, Euthamia, and now Heterotheca) from phylogenetic perspectives (Sanger Sequencing, Genome Skimming, Target-Capture). I have incorporated dichotomous keys, morphometric analyses, and ecological niche modeling into these projects to better characterize cryptic species which may have not been recognized without molecular sequence data.

Through analyzing sequence data and morphometric data, I have become familiar with Bash/Linux, R/R Studio, and Python. While I generated code to generate county-level maps in R, I also use a combination of ArcGIS Pro and QGIS to aid in developing ecological niche models via SDMToolBox and MaxEnt. I have begun using GitHub to store certain R code (https://github.com/MarisaBSzubryt/) and am an avid iNaturalist user (https://www.inaturalist.org/people/marisaszubryt). My field work has led me to become an avid collector as well that has fostered a passion for herbaria. I’ve annotated specimens at ISC, KANU, LSU, MO, MOR, OKL, OKLA, and SIU; my collections can be found in BRIT, CSU, LSU, OKL, OKLA, SIU, STAR, TEX/LL, UARK, and WIS (https://portal.torcherbaria.org/portal/collections/harvestparams.php).
