Welcome! I am Marisa Blake Szubryt, a doctorate candidate at the University of Oklahoma ‘s School of Biological Sciences. I consider myself an evolutionary biologist and botanist who primarily utilizes DNA sequencing data to reconstruct phylogenetic trees or networks. My research nowadays focuses on the genus Heterotheca (Asteraceae: Astereae) which has undergone recurrent polyploidy events and seemingly extensive introgression. This genus’ complex evolutionary history and variable ploidy levels within species make it a prime candidate to investigate how whole genome duplications can impact admixture and speciation.
